Victims of Boko Haram

As one might expect in modern Britain, The Commentator has been getting no small amount of criticism for the extent of our coverage this week of Islamist groups slaughtering Christians and other "Infidels" in the Middle East and beyond. To be fair, that has been heavily outweighed by those who praise us for speaking out while most of the media has failed to step up to the plate.

[UPDATE: The Commentator is being inundated with attacks for reporting and highlighting this story in Britain. We're being accused of being "Nazis", "Islamophobes", "reactionaries", "imperialists". We're being accused of "enjoying this aren't you"; and those are just the printable ones. Note. As far as we can tell, very little of this is coming from the UK Muslim community. It looks like it's all from liberal-left types. We'll update you further. Meanwhile, the story in the UK has now been totally smothered..]

One wonders, though, what the critics will be saying today. It has been reported out of Nigeria that the anti-Christian Islamist group Boko Haram, which has slaughtered thousands in the last decade, burst into a college dormitary in the early hours of Sunday morning and massacred dozens of students with machine guns as they slept in their beds.

Boko Haram wants to establish an Islamist state under strict sharia law in Nigeria, a country split almost evenly between Christians and Muslims. Early reports put the death toll in the latest Boko Haram attack at up to 50.

The attacks come after massacres of Christians last weekend in Kenya and Pakistan, as well as ongoing violence and oppression in Syria. The attack in Nairobi was widely covered in Britain, mainly because several Britons were caught up in the fighting.

The massacre of almost 90 Christian worshippers in the Peshawar All Saints Church last Sunday in Pakistan was all but ignored across the British media, as is usually the case with Islamist killings of Christians.

In general -- though not always -- the initial attacks are briefly reported. Then the story quickly peters out with little or no follow through in terms of commentaries and discussion in the days that follow. If Christians had been massacring Muslims in this manner, it is hard to imagine there would be anything other than saturation coverage for weeks on end.
